Tezpur University observes National Service Scheme Day

TEZPUR, Sept 28: Tezpur University celebrated National Service Scheme (NSS) Day at the KBR auditorium of the university to instil a sense of community service, social integration, and social responsibility among its students.

The event commenced with a lamp lighting ceremony and was graced by the presence of chief guest Professor Shambhu Nath Singh, vice-chancellor of Tezpur University. Professor Singh delivered an inspiring address about the profound significance of NSS in nurturing social responsibility and the spirit of national integration.

Adding to the event’s prominence, Tezpur University welcomed Dr Rama, the esteemed principal of Hansraj College, University of Delhi, and Professor Girish Kumar Sharma. Also in attendance were Dr Biren Das, registrar of Tezpur University, and Prof Manabindra Mandal, dean of Students Welfare. Associate dean of Students Welfare, Dr Nabin Sharma, and Dr Juri Gogoi Konwar also participated in the celebration.

In his address, vice-chancellor Professor Shambhu Nath Singh highlighted the upcoming Swachhta Abhiyan scheduled for October 1 and 2. He passionately called upon the university’s energetic volunteers to actively participate in this nationwide cleanliness campaign, reinforcing the noble cause of national integration.

The event concluded with the distribution of prizes for the essay writing competition, poster presentation, and quiz, which witnessed spirited participation from students across various academic disciplines. Cultural programs were the highlight of the celebration, featuring mesmerising performances, including soulful songs, energetic Bihu dances, elegant Sattriya dances, graceful Kathak performances, and more.

Dr Amiya Kr Das, programme coordinator at Tezpur University, motivated and congratulated the volunteers for their commitment and dedication to the community’s development. He, along with programme officer Dr Apurba Saha, played instrumental roles in orchestrating a seamless event.
