DALGAON, Sept 10: A tiger has been causing panic in Kheroni Chapari, located under the jurisdiction of the Shyampur police station in Darrang district. The tiger has already attacked and seriously injured four people in the area, leading locals to accuse forest workers of negligence.

The first victim, Faizuddin, a middle-aged man from Kheroni Chapari village near the Orang National Park and Tiger Project, alerted locals to the presence of the tiger on Sunday morning. Concerned residents promptly notified the forest department.

However, the situation escalated when the tiger attacked another man, 25-year-old Azahar Ali, around 7 am on Sunday. Both victims were rushed to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for treatment from Mangaldai Civil Hospital.

Despite the presence of forest workers who surrounded the tiger and attempted to monitor it, the big cat continued to move around uncontrollably. Large crowds gathered from different areas to witness the spectacle. Unfortunately, the forest workers failed to evacuate the people from the area, and due to this negligence, the tiger later attacked two more individuals, Abutaleb, 35, and Shahed Ali, 25, in the evening.

A significant contingent of the forest department, along with personnel from the Shyampur police station, was present at the scene. The injured individuals have been admitted to Mangaldai and GMCH hospitals for treatment.

The incidents have raised concerns about wildlife management and the safety of local communities in the vicinity of wildlife reserves. Wildlife authorities are likely to conduct investigations into the tiger’s behavior and the circumstances surrounding the attacks to prevent future incidents.
