MARGHERITA, Oct 25: The joyous atmosphere of Vijaya Dashami immersion, filled with dancing, singing, and celebration, took a grim turn as a young Adivasi businessman from the Ledo region was brutally attacked with machetes, knives, a cricket bat, and hockey sticks, leaving him with severe injuries and bleeding.

The victim, Raju Gowala, who owns Bappa Restaurant in Ledo, was on his way to purchase water from a shop in Ledo Rodgaon when he was ambushed by two brothers from Ledo Itakhola, identified as Somesh Talukdar and Ganesh Talukdar. They struck him with a cricket bat and a sharp knife, inflicting serious injuries. The confrontation between the two sides also resulted in the vandalism of a car.

Subsequently, the Assam Tea Tribe Students Association (ATTSA) and the All Assam Adivasi Students Association (AASAA) Margherita regional committee, along with the Tinsukia District committee, swiftly responded to the incident. They filed a formal complaint (FIR) at the Margherita police station.

Raju Gowala revealed that he had been receiving threats from the Talukdar brothers for several days prior to this brutal attack. On this sacred Vijaya Dashami, their threats turned into a violent assault with hockey sticks and sharp machetes. He urgently appeals to the Margherita sub-divisional administration (civil) and the Margherita Police to take immediate action against the Talukdar brothers and ensure that the full force of the law is brought to bear against them.
