Renowned classical musician Ustad Rashid Khan passes away at 55

Mumbai, Jan 9: Renowned Indian classical musician Ustad Rashid Khan passed away in a private hospital in Kolkata on Tuesday, as per reports. The 55-year-old maestro was reportedly battling prostate cancer.

His health had reportedly deteriorated following a cerebral attack last month. Initially, he was treated at Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital. According to medical sources, he passed away at around 3:45 pm today.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her condolences over his demise, terming it a significant loss to the country and the music fraternity. Ustad Rashid Khan, born on 1st July 1966 in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh, was the great-grandson of the legendary Ustad Inayat Hussain Khan Saheb, founder of the Rampur Sahaswan Gharana.

His musical talent was first noticed by his uncle Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan. Rashid Khan began his performance journey at the age of eleven and achieved fame through his participation in music conferences in India and abroad. His contribution to Indian classical music was his unique ability to infuse emotional content into his melodies.
