DONGKAMUKAM, June 16: Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang, on Monday inaugurated an exhibition at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan, Ghelani in West Karbi Anglong, to mark the completion of 11 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tenure.
The venue also serves as the office of the BJP’s West Karbi Anglong District Committee.
The exhibition, organised by the BJP, showcased comparative data highlighting the Centre’s achievements under Modi’s leadership in contrast with the previous Congress regimes.

Among the highlights were the increase in AIIMS from 8 to 23, medical seats from 82,533 to 1,92,496, and IITs from 16 to 23.
The number of universities was shown to have risen from 723 to 1,213.
The exhibition also underlined the implementation of 33 percent women’s reservation in Parliament and State Assemblies, India’s emergence as a global economic powerhouse, and the transformation of the Northeast into a key growth engine.
Following the exhibition, a ‘Professional Baithak’ was held to commemorate the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, CEM Tuliram Ronghang described the BJP-led NDA government as pro-poor.
He cited initiatives such as free distribution of rice under the NFSA, which provides 5 kg per person each month, and the Ayushman Bharat scheme that offers free treatment up to ₹5 lakh for economically disadvantaged individuals.
Reflecting on the condition of the hill districts prior to 2014, Ronghang said that Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao had been plagued by ethnic clashes, frequent bandhs, extremism, and developmental stagnation.
Referring to the 1996 Charchim massacre where 41 innocent travellers were killed during a peak of insurgency, he said the situation has drastically changed under the Modi government.
Six extremist groups have since laid down arms and a tripartite peace accord was signed between the Centre, the Assam government and the militant organisations in recent years.
He noted that the return of peace has paved the way for development in the region, with more progress expected in the next three years.
Ronghang further added that while the Congress government failed to allocate sufficient funds to KAAC, the BJP government has since doubled the financial outlay for the council.
The Baithak was attended by Diphu MP Amarsing Tisso, MLA Rupsing Teron, KAAC Deputy Chairman Avijit Kro, President of BJP West Karbi Anglong District Committee Radip Ronghang, and other party functionaries.
