Amar Sankolpo Seva Committee celebrates 50 weeks of meals distribution

HOJAI, Feb 4: Amar Sankolpo Seva Committee, a Hojai based social organisation, celebrated its 50th week of meals distribution on Sunday. To commemorate this noble mission, a program was organised where Tapan Medhi, officer-in-charge, Hojai Police Station, graced the event as the chief guest. Social activists Kamal Dutta, Pramod Ranjan Das, Debarata Saha, Bishal Bhattacharjee, and many other guests were present as guests of honour.

Speaking on the occasion, the guests appreciated the social service rendered by Amar Sankolpo Seva Committee and encouraged their volunteers to continue their mission of serving society. They emphasised the sentiment, “Service to mankind is service to God”.

On the sidelines of the program, Happy Singh, joint secretary, stated that their social service began on February 26, 2022, and they are extremely happy to have successfully completed 50 weeks this Sunday. He mentioned that every Sunday, they set up a stall near Kali Mandir, Railway Station Campus in Hojai, where they distribute pure vegetarian meals to over 450 needy people (charging Rs 1 for each meal). Singh added, “Till now, 22,000 people have benefited from it.”

Singh informed about the committee’s structure, with Mandip Kr Saha as president, Badshah Bhattacharjee as vice-president, Bikash Saha as secretary, Happy Singh as joint secretary, Swarup Roy as cashier, along with fifty-plus members. The committee members expressed their gratitude to everyone who directly or indirectly supported them in their endeavours. Notably, along with free meal distribution, they organise blood donation camps and carry out plantation drives.
