DIPHU, Sept 16: Padmashree Rongbong Terang, a renowned writer and former president of Asom Sahitya Sabha (ASS), was conferred with Honoris Causa (PhD) degree in a ceremony held at CV Raman Conference Hall of Assam University Diphu Campus (AUDC) on Monday.
The conferring ceremony of Honoris Causa (PhD) degree to Padmashree Terang was scheduled on September 13 and 14 by the Assam University at Silchar during the 21st convocation of the University.
However, Terang decided against attending the programme owing to poor health condition.
Notably, the chancellor, PVSM, AVSM, VM, and vice chancellor Prof RM Pant from Assam University’s Silchar campus were also present at AUDC, to attend the ceremony.
On being conferred with the Honoris Causa, Terang said, “It is a great privilege for me to receive this honour being conferred upon me by Assam University. I am receiving this on behalf of the people of Karbi Anglong and I dedicate the honour to them. It is a pride for the people of Karbi Anglong and this will be an example to the youngsters to aspire for their goals.”
Among other notable dignitaries present at the event, pro-vice chancellor, AUDC, prof Sivasish Biswas; eminent professors of AUDC; president, Diphu Press Club, Borsing Rongphar; and president, District Press Club of Karbi Anglong, Diganta Teron, graced the programme.
