JORHAT: Six members of a gang apprehended by police at Pulibor Police Station on the night of Friday and Saturday, while reportedly attempting to steal crude oil from a pipeline, have been remanded to police custody for three days.
A source indicated that the six accused—two from Pulibor and four from Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts—have been charged under Sections 111, 303(2), 62, and 61(2) of the BNS, as well as Section 15(4) of the Petroleum and Minerals Pipelines (Acquisition of Right of User in Land) Act, 1962, and Sections 25(6) and 30 of the Arms Act in Pulibor Police Station Case Number 138/2024.
It is noteworthy that police recovered a licensed pistol and several tools, including valves used for stealing crude oil from the underground pipeline that transports crude from Upper Assam to the refinery.
