Jhumur dance training workshop inaugurated

MARGHERITA, Jan 28: Margherita co-district commissioner Parikshit Thoudam on Tuesday by lighting earthen lamps inaugurated a mega Jhumur dance training workshop at central field, Margherita.

It marked a significant step in the Assam Government mission “Jhumoir Binandini” 2025 to secure Guinness World Record recognition of Jhumoir dance. This tryout would follow the historic inclusion of Bihu dance at Guinness World Record.

Megha “Jhumoir Binandini” 2025 is being organised by Assam Government Cultural affairs department where the dance training workshop is organised by Margherita Co-District administration from January 28 to 31. 

Altogether 300 Jhumoir dance artists from various tea gardens under Margherita LAC, participated in this dance training workshop. 

At the conclusion of the training, 81 proficient dancers will be selected from Margherita LAC to represent the region at the main event in Guwahati which is scheduled to be held on February 24, the event will see a spectacular performance by 8,000 Jhumoir dancers from across Assam at Sarusajai stadium, Guwahati aiming to set a new Guinness World Record said Ranjit Borpujari president of Megha Jhumoir dance training workshop, Margherita.

On February 28 Megha Jhumoir Binandini event will be attended by prominent dignitaries, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma along with representatives from the Guinness World Records.
