KHERONI, April 16: In a significant development ahead of the 2nd Karbi Aron Barim Chingrum Amei, Tuliram Ronghang, Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), conducted a detailed review of the ongoing preparations on Monday night.
The high-profile event, a major congregation of Karbi indigenous faith practitioners, will be held at the Karbi People’s Hall in Taralangso, Diphu.
Meticulous arrangements, including the construction of a grand pandal and other essential infrastructure, are currently underway to ensure the successful hosting of the event.
The two-day congregation is expected to draw nearly two lakh participants from Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao, Silchar, Sonitpur, and other regions.
A major highlight of the event will be the presence of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is scheduled to attend the congregation over two days, April 17 and 18.
His visit aims to boost ongoing efforts in regional development, cultural preservation, and peacebuilding in Karbi Anglong.
On April 17, the Chief Minister will convene a high-level meeting with representatives from six former armed groups that have signed Memoranda of Settlement (MoS) with the government.
He will also interact with Karbi organizations from the plains districts of Assam.
In a significant boost to infrastructure, Sarma will inaugurate Public Works Department (PWD) road projects worth ₹100 crore, aimed at improving connectivity in the region.
The following day, April 18, Sarma will attend the Karbi Aron Barim Chingrum Amei as the chief guest.
The event will begin with a traditional ritual invoking indigenous deities, followed by the singing of the Karbi faith anthem.
In his address, the Chief Minister is expected to underscore the importance of preserving Karbi cultural heritage and highlight the government’s commitment to the socio-cultural and economic upliftment of the region.
Local organisations from both Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong are also scheduled to meet with the Chief Minister to discuss pressing community concerns and future aspirations.
Additionally, Sarma will hold a comprehensive meeting with all KAAC department heads to assess ongoing projects and formulate forward-looking development strategies.
The Chief Minister’s visit, coupled with the vibrant cultural congregation, marks a significant step toward fostering unity, development, and cultural pride among the Karbi people.
