5,12,000 Voters To Cast Vote In Diphu LS Polls

DIPHU, March 14: The District election officer (DEO) and district commissioner (DC) of Karbi Anglong, Madhumita Bhagawati on Sunday announced the election schedule following  the announcement of election schedule from the chief election commissioner Rajiv Kumar on Saturday for the seven-phase Lok Sabha polls, Diphu (ST) along with Darang-Udalguri, Karimganj, Silchar (SC) and Nagoan will exercise their franchise in the second-phase.

Notification will be on March 28,  last date of filing nomination on April 4, Scrutiny on April 5 , last date of withdrawal on April 8 and date of poll on April 26, counting will be held on June 4 and the entire of election process will be ended on June 6, 2024, informed during a press briefing at Circuit house, Diphu.

Addressing the media District Election officer, Madhumita Bhagawati said, “ As many as 5,12,000 voters are eligible to vote including Bokajan sub-division out of which 3,62,000 voters are from Diphu and Howraghat LACs and the total polling personnel required is 2,354 out of which male polling personnels are 2,212 including micro observers and number of female polling personnels are 142  where they will stay in 448 centers. Central, state and district armed forces have been included and involved in the election’.

She also informed that those voters whose names have not been included in the voter list will be given an opportunity to exercise their franchise through form-6 and will accept before 10 days of the last date of nomination.

Regarding the preparedness of election DC Bhagwati stated the first phase of polling randomization for polling officers has been completed and second round will be held from April 3-6 for presiding and first colleagues and the final phase will be from 17 to 20 April.

There are 12 women polling stations under Diphu Legislative Assembly constituency. In those polling stations all the officials including presiding and police personnel are women and in Howraghat Legislative Assembly constituency there are 8 women polling stations.

Three flying squads are made available for the three constituencies Bokajan, Howragahat and Diphu, they can check vehicle any point of time related to election. Static surveillance team have also been constituted to check vehicles and 14 naka checkings have been installed on Dimapur road, Golaghat, Parakhowa and Lumding road. Election expenditure can be done by video surveillance team and will check the expenditure of a candidate by estimating the expenditure limit to Rs 95 lakh. For the recognized journalist and polling, presiding officers will be felicitating postal ballots through the felicitation centers, added district election officer, Bhagawati.
