DIPHU, July 9: The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) conducted its Party Workers Convention for five Legislative Assembly seats, namely Bokajan, Diphu, Howraghat, Baithalangso, and Haflong. The convention, held at Langtuk Habe Memorial Hall, aimed to reinforce the party’s structure in the hill districts of Assam, including Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong, and Dima Hasao.
The event was attended by Atul Bora, the president of AGP and minister of agriculture, government of Assam, along with Keshab Mahanta, the minister of health & family welfare, and other party members.
During the media interaction following the workers’ meet, Atul Bora stated, “We have not determined how many seats we will contest. As delimitation is currently underway, we cannot say from which seat we will contest until the process is finalized.”
He mentioned that AGP is in contact with its workers in all 14 Lok Sabha seats, with workers’ meetings already held in 13 constituencies.
Regarding delimitation, Bora highlighted that there may be differing opinions within the party, but the concerns and suggestions will be presented to the Election Commission and the chief minister. He emphasised that delimitation is in the interest of the indigenous people and that there is no dispute within the party on this matter.
When asked about the Congress party, Bora expressed his views on their previous rule and stated that they have failed to gain the approval of the people despite having the opportunity to govern the nation for 70 years. He added that the people of Assam have not approved of the Congress’ rule in the past, indicating that they are unlikely to return to power.
