Assam artist showcases traditional art at ‘From Eight with Art’ exhibition in New Delhi

NAGAON, May 31: Assam’s rich artistic heritage is being represented at the ongoing “From Eight with Art” exhibition at the Indian International Centre (IIC) Annexe Art Gallery, Lodi Estate, New Delhi.

The exhibition, which opened on May 30 and will continue until June 5, 2025, features acclaimed traditional ‘Sanchi Pat’ artist Sujit Das from Assam.

Organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and Tribal Wave, the exhibition brings together artists from all eight northeastern states—Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, and Sikkim.

It aims to highlight the diverse and vibrant artistic traditions of the region while showcasing contemporary expressions rooted in indigenous culture.

Curated by Padma Shri awardee Sentila T Yangfo, the exhibition is open to the public daily from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

Sujit Das, who has received recognition from UNESCO, Cambridge University, and the Guinness World Records (2012), is known for his intricate manuscript paintings using handmade bark paper and natural color pigments.

His work vividly reflects Assam’s traditional art and the cultural tapestry of the North-East.

According to an official statement, the exhibition seeks to celebrate the artistic excellence of the region and promote greater national visibility for its creative talents.
