NAGAON, Dec 4: Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, during his maiden visit to Nagaon district, on Wednesday visited Tokolai Babejia village as part of the ‘Gaon Mein Governor’ initiative and interacted with the villagers while taking stock of the development initiatives meant for them.
It may be noted that ‘Gaon Mein Governor’ is an initiative undertaken by the Governor to ensure that he can have a firsthand view of the real changes that the government schemes have brought about in the villages, as well as the beneficiaries living in them.
During his visit, the Governor spoke to the villagers and took stock of the implementation of different government schemes and how the schemes are impacting the lives of the villagers. The Governor told the villagers that the government schemes were envisaged for the benefit of the people and encouraged the beneficiaries to avail themselves of the benefits of the schemes to improve their lives. He also took note of the success of the public welfare initiatives in bettering the lives of the beneficiaries, especially those living in the villages.
As part of his visit to the district, the Governor also went to see the flood-affected areas and interacted with the villagers to understand the impact of floods on their lives and the support they receive from the district administration. He also took note of the availability of essential services like healthcare and drinking water.
Acharya visited one of the Amrit Sarovar sites at Baglajan village and took a look at the works carried out under the program. He asked the concerned officials to undertake a plantation drive around Amrit Sarovar and enhance the beauty of the site. He also visited the house of a beneficiary of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and took stock of the facilities provided by the government.
The Governor also visited Bahkabari HS School and interacted with the students. He also took note of the availability of infrastructure, amenities, drinking water, and sanitation facilities in the school. He, moreover, inspected the construction of an embankment along the Kopili river and asked the officials to expedite the work.
Later, the Governor held a meeting at the Conference Hall of the District Commissioner in Nagaon. The district commissioner of Nagaon, Narendra Kumar Shah, informed the Governor about the preparedness carried out by the administration for the forthcoming monsoon. During the meeting, the Governor also took note of the degree of damage caused by the floods last year and the restoration work undertaken by the government. In the meeting, the Governor asked the administration to maintain sustained vigilance to ensure that the fruits of the government’s works reach every beneficiary and bring about tangible changes in the lives of all.
