SIVASAGAR, Nov 19: On Tuesday, the Moranhat Assam Tea Tribe Students Association (ATTSA) carried out a three-hour protest demonstration against the non-implementation of the Thomson Tinali-Hingrijan-Selaiguri Road construction project under Moran Revenue Circle, the foundation stone for which was laid by the then Jorhat MP Topon Kumar Gogoi in the presence of Revenue and Disaster Management minister Jogen Mohan on March 9, 2023.
The ATTSA activists raised slogans against the Lok Nirman Department and the local MLA for their indifference to commuters facing hardship due to the dilapidated road. Numerous accidents have occurred on this stretch of the road in the last six months, and the student body demanded the immediate resumption of construction within three days. Residents of the Ranagli Reserve area are currently forced to travel to Moran town via Kachumari due to the terrible condition of the road.
The ATTSA Hingrijan sub-branch warned that it would be compelled to launch a violent agitation if action is not taken within the stipulated time. The students later submitted a memorandum to the revenue circle officer, Moran, to be forwarded to chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
