On Friday following her address in Parliament at the start of the Budget session Sonia Gandhi referred to President Droupadi Murmu as a “poor thing”.

“The disillusioned Congress has this time not spared even the President of the country from humiliation. Congress has shown a lack of respect for the highest constitutional post in the country, which is evident from Sonia Gandhi’s statement today. During the joint session of Parliament today, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi insulted President Draupadi Murmu by calling her a ‘weak woman’ which is unfortunate,” Saikia said.

Saikia said that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi calling President Draupadi Murmu’s speech ‘boring’ showed that he used Parliament as a source of entertainment.

“Moreover, IND Alliance MP Pappu Yadav also called the President’s speech a “love letter,” exposing his corrupt mindset,” he said.

Saikia further stated that Congress’s mistreatment of Murmu was not the first instance.

Saikia added by saying that during the Constitution Day joint session of Parliament in 2024, Rahul Gandhi did not offer greetings to the President.

“She may belong to a tribal community but Rahul Gandhi had previously accused Draupadi Murmu of being barred from entering the Ram Mandir. Later, in the subsequent year, she participated in the grand Aarti at Ram Mandir. In 2022, Congress leader Ajay Kumar had also insulted Murmu by calling her the representative of an “evil philosophy.” Congress leader Dr. Choudhury had even mocked her by calling her “Rashtrapati-ni.” Additionally, one of the key partners in the IND Alliance, Trinamool Congress Minister Akhil Giri, had made derogatory remarks about Murmu’s physical appearance. In this way, Congress has repeatedly mocked the highest constitutional office in the country, which reflects a dangerous threat to the democratic system.
