NAGAON, Feb 12: Noted artist Tankeswar Baidya ceremonially released ‘Prathikrit Sangeetajnya Sushil Benarjee’, a book detailing the life and works of the renowned expert and master of classical music, Sushil Kumar Benarjee, at a prestigious function organised at Nagaon Kollul Bhavan on Monday.
The book was published by Nanda Benarjee, also an expert and master of classical music and the son of the veteran musician. The program commenced with the lighting of the earthen lamp at the portrait of Sushil Benarjee by former AGP minister and academician Girindra Kr Boruah.
Naushad Akhtar Hazarika, the general secretary of Kollul Sangskritik Gosthi, Nagaon, chaired the program, while Dr Jyotirmoy Jana, retired professor of Nowgong Girls’ College and noted critic of Assamese literature, attended the program as the chief guest. Additionally, artists Tarini Mohan Sharma, Rati Mohan Nath, Ariful Haque, Krishna Dulal Baruah, Gurmail Singh, Dr Sarbeswar Bora, Surya Kr Raja, and other noted individuals from literary and cultural fields were present at the event.
Born in 1904 at Bikrampur Shulghar in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Sushil Benarjee subsequently settled in Nagaon Fauzdaripatty and continued teaching classical music until his demise in 1976. Throughout his life, he imparted education on classical music to several hundred students across the state, as asserted in a release on Monday afternoon.
