Campaigning for phase-2 polls in Assam to stop from April 24

Guwahati, April 23: The State Election Commission of Assam has announced a halt on all forms of political campaigning 48 hours before the second phase of polling.

This applies to five constituencies of Assam where the second phase of Lok Sabha elections is scheduled on April 26. Campaigning activities will cease from 5 pm of April 24.

Political parties are prohibited from organising any meetings or mass gatherings, hosting cultural events, or using mass media for election campaigning from the stipulated time. Constituencies of Karimganj, Silchar, Mangaldoi, Nawgong, and Kaliabor are to vote in this phase.

Additionally, the sale of alcohol in these constituencies is also prohibited from 5 pm of April 24 till the end of polling on April 26. The BJP, after the recent delimitation, aims to win 12 of the 14 Lok Sabha seats, an increase from the nine won in 2019.
