Chhatraman Subba to receive Sahitya Akademi’s Translation Prize

BISWANATH CHARIALI, March 12: Chhatraman Subba, a multilingual writer and an assistant teacher born in Gorpal, on the southern part of Sootea, has been chosen for the Translation Prize of Sahitya Akademi for his work ‘Kayakalpa’. It is noteworthy that the original Assamese novel authored by Lakshmi Nandan Bora was translated into the Nepali language in 2020 by Chhatraman Subba.

The executive body of the national academy of letters met in New Delhi, where the translation prizes for 24 Indian languages were declared. A total of 3 translators from the state of Assam have been chosen for the translation award of Sahitya Akademi.

Chhatraman Subba is proficient in both Nepali and Assamese languages. He has several books to his credit, including ‘Lok Sanskritika Adharheru’, ‘Mangena’, ‘Kirat Ek Khoj’, and ‘Bharat-Nepal Sambandhama Itihas Ko Khoji’, among others. He has translated seven books so far from Assamese to Nepali and vice versa, besides editing books of research importance. Organisations and individuals from the greater Sootea area and the Balipara area have conveyed their best wishes to him.
