DEMOW, June 29: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday visited Demow Ekarani in Demow constituency to review the ongoing construction of the Sivasagar Medical College and the Tata Cancer Hospital.
The Chief Minister inspected the site and assessed the physical progress of both major healthcare projects, which are being developed to significantly strengthen the medical infrastructure of Sivasagar district.
Speaking to the media after the inspection, Sarma said that the construction of the medical college has reached 20 percent completion, while the cancer hospital has made substantial progress, with 65 percent of the work already completed.
He informed that a new road connecting the hospital complex directly to the highway has been proposed to ease access and improve connectivity.
The chief minister assured that efforts are being made to complete both projects within the stipulated timeframe.
Sarma further added that the full completion of the expansive medical complex would typically take around three years, but with the current pace of work and continued efforts, it could be completed within two and a half years.
On employment opportunities, he stated that recruitment for fourth-grade posts is being handled through outsourcing to ensure that local youth benefit from the job openings.
For government positions, eligible candidates will be required to clear the ongoing Assam Direct Recruitment Examinations (ADRE).
While commenting on infrastructure development, the chief minister acknowledged the slow pace of construction work on the Sivasagar–Demow road and assured that steps are being taken to speed up the project to ensure timely completion.
Accompanying the chief minister during the inspection were Education Minister and Guardian Minister of Sivasagar district Ranoj Pegu, Demow MLA Sushanta Borgohain, Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Ayush Garg, senior district officials, construction representatives, and BJP workers.
