Congress supporters join BJP in Karbi Anglong

DIPHU, April 10: In another setback for the Congress of Karbi Anglong in the run-up to the second phase of parliamentary elections, supporters of Congress from Daur-Amla Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) constituency of West Karbi Anglong and from Diphu town merged with the BJP in a joining ceremony held at the BJP Election Management Committee office Rongnihang here.

Under the leadership of Bijoy Teron, vice president of the West Karbi Anglong Congress Committee (WKADCC), and member Joyram Khorai, seven members from Congress in total have joined the BJP. Additionally, another 45 strong supporters of Congress from Rongnihang polling station under Lumbajong MAC constituency and Chandrasing HS School (R/W) polling stations have also joined the BJP.

The 52 members from Congress joining the BJP were welcomed by the chief executive member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang, in the presence of MP Horensing Bey; MLA Dorsing Ronghang; BJP MP candidate Amarsing Tisso, and other leaders of the party.

CEM Ronghang welcomed the newly joined BJP members and said it is the right decision and the right time taken to join the BJP. He emphasised that in BJP, everyone is treated equally and urged the newly joined members to work together wholeheartedly with other party members for the BJP to win the election.

Vice president of WKADCC, Teron, who joined the BJP on Wednesday, said, “Seeing the efficiency, dedication, and tireless effort of the work done by CEM Ronghang, I have joined the BJP. In today’s Congress in Karbi Anglong, there is a leadership crisis. Good and efficient leaders are leaving the Congress and joining the BJP.”
