Corruption Case Exposes Govt Official In Kamrup District

GUWAHATI, July 6: A complaint lodged with the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam, has revealed alleged corrupt practices by Jibesh Kr Deb Sarma, Lot Mandal of the Office of the Circle Officer, Chamaria revenue circle, in Kamrup district. The complaint accused Sarma of demanding a bribe of Rs 10,000 for facilitating the mutation of land records.

Refusing to succumb to bribery, the complainant sought legal intervention from the Directorate, prompting swift action against the accused public servant.

Consequently, a well-planned operation was conducted on Thursday by a team from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam, at the Office of the Circle Officer, Chamaria Revenue Circle. At approximately 1:00 pm, Jibesh Kr Deb Sarma was apprehended red-handed while accepting a sum of Rs 6,000 as a partial payment of the bribe demanded from the complainant. The tainted money was promptly seized and recovered from Sarma’s possession in the presence of independent witnesses.

Based on substantial evidence gathered during the operation, the accused public servant was immediately arrested by the diligent team from the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam.

In connection with the case, ACB Police Station registered the incident on Thursday itself under ACB PS Case No 50/2023, citing Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018).

The necessary legal proceedings are now in progress to ensure accountability and justice in this corruption case.

Commending the move by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption, the DGP of Assam, GP Singh stated, “Excellent work. We’ve to continue to be ruthless in containing corruption amongst public servants in Assam.”
