JORHAT, March 27: The Congress candidate Gaurav Gogoi on Tuesday filed his nomination papers at the Jorhat District Commissioner’s Office for the Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency here.
Gaurav Gogoi, accompanied by leader of the Opposition in the state assembly Debabrata Saikia, Titabar MLA Bhaskar Jyoti Baruah, and an advocate, submitted his papers to Jorhat DC Pulak Mahanta, who is the returning officer for the 14 Jorhat HPC comprising 10 assembly constituencies spread over Jorhat, Sivasagar, Charaideo, and Majuli island districts.
The sitting Kaliabar MP Gaurav Gogoi, accompanied by Akhil Gogoi, Rakibul Hussain, Rekibuddin Ahmed, Debabrata Saikia, Bhaskar Jyoti Baruah, along with thousands of party workers, supporters, and top Congress and alliance party leaders, took out a padayatra across the main thoroughfares of the town.
The Congress party workers along with those of the alliance parties, which included a large number of women and youths, held flags of their respective parties and shouted slogans ‘Gaurav Gogoi zindabad’.
After filing his nomination papers, Gaurav Gogoi told media-persons that the massive response from Congress party workers, supporters, along with those of the alliance partners, well-wishers, and general people towards him across the entire Jorhat parliamentary constituency, has clearly indicated that winds of change were blowing to wrest the seat from BJP this time.
Earlier, before filing his nomination, Gaurav Gogoi visited the Buri Goxani Dewal (Temple), Gurudwara Ramgariah Sabha, Tarajan Masjid, and Borbheta Baptist Church here and offered prayers and sought blessings. On Monday, he moved across the Jorhat assembly constituency continuing his campaign which he began on March 15 from Titabar.
