KOKRAJHAR, May 17: In a major boost to rural housing and women empowerment in Chirang district, a virtual Griha Pravesh (housewarming) ceremony under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G) and the launch of the ‘Lakhimi Mistri’ initiative was held today at the District Centre, Kajalgaon.

The event was conducted simultaneously across the three Development Blocks — Borobazar, Sidli, and Manikpur — covering a total of 1,726 beneficiaries who were handed over their newly constructed homes under PMAY-G.

705 houses were inaugurated in Borobazar Block, 918 houses in Sidli Block and 103 houses in Manikpur Block

Prominent dignitaries including MLA Sidli Nirmal Brahma, MLA Bijni Ajoy Kumar Ray, and TCLCC Chairpersons Suresh Daimari and Mawti Brahma attended the respective block-level functions. They interacted with the beneficiaries and praised the initiative for fulfilling the dream of rural families to own a dignified home.

Adding to the day’s significance, the ‘Lakhimi Mistri’ programme was officially launched. This is a women-centric skill development initiative aimed at training women in masonry and construction work. The goal is to foster self-reliance among rural women while simultaneously enhancing the capacity of local communities in implementing housing schemes like PMAY-G.

Officials expressed optimism that this pioneering initiative will not only empower women economically but also ensure the quality and timely construction of rural homes under government schemes.
