BOKAJAN, Aug 19: In a significant breakthrough, the police in Karbi Anglong successfully recovered a substantial amount of heroin hidden by drug smugglers within a jungle.
The incident unfolded when an SUV bearing the registration number AS 05 G 0931, traveling from Dimapur, Nagaland, was signaled to halt at a checkpoint in Karagaon on Friday. Instead of complying with the police’s instructions, the vehicle forcefully broke through the barricade and fled. Subsequently, the abandoned SUV was discovered in Dillai Tiniali under Dillai police station in Karbi Anglong. However, upon meticulous inspection, no incriminating evidence was found within the vehicle.
Following these events, Sanju Ali (43), the son of Jaynal Ali and a resident of Sarupathar under Sarupathar police station in Golaghat district, was apprehended from Barpathar area in Golaghat district.
Taking the investigation forward, on Saturday, Ali guided the police to a jungle area under Dillai police station. Through thorough searching, the police successfully uncovered a substantial haul of 543.60 grams of heroin, valuing approximately Rs 4 crore in the market. This discovery marks a significant setback for the drug trafficking network operating in the region.
The successful operation and subsequent arrest underscore the dedication and commitment of law enforcement agencies in curbing the menace of drug trafficking, ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.
