The event included the presentation of awards and recognition to distinguished personalities and achievers.

On the occasion, the chief executive member (CEM) Tuliram Ronghang announced the launch of ‘Team Karbi Anglong,’ scheduled to commence visiting rural villages from July onwards. The initiative aims to address local issues directly by engaging with village headmen and evaluating the implementation status of government schemes.

“Team Karbi Anglong comprises stakeholders from diverse backgrounds, committed to the betterment of Karbi Anglong. Our goal is to ensure that every village benefits from government initiatives,” Ronghang addressed during the open session.

Ronghang also clarified provisions under the 6th Schedule of the Constitution of India, emphasising the autonomy of KAAC in preparing separate electoral rolls despite the requirement for amendment and government notification.

“Though separate electoral rolls can be prepared by KAAC, the implementing authority is not with the KAAC. As per article 163 (1) of the Constitution of India, the Council of Ministers will aid and advise the Governor. It will go for amendment and government notification then only it can be implemented,” he added.

Regarding recent developments on social media platforms, Ronghang highlighted the enactment of the Criminal Major Act, aimed at combating misinformation and false propaganda.

“Under this Act, those spreading false statements against individuals or communities will face stringent penalties, including imprisonment,” he warned.

Ronghang further expressed optimism about ongoing development projects in Karbi Anglong, underscoring the return of peace and stability in the region.

The Khorsing Terang Award for socio-culture was bestowed upon Lawrence Teron of Rongthe-ang, and the Sarsing Teron (Langkung Habe) Award in politics was posthumously awarded to late Khorsing Bey, former CEM of KAAC, received by his wife, Bina Ronghangpi.

Special recognition was given to MLA Bidyasing Engleng for his distinguished political career and to individuals and organisations excelling in arts, culture, culinary hospitality, and sports.

The event also honored filmmaker Dhoniram Tisso and actress Malin Tissopi, who received a cash award and citation for her achievement in the NERI International Film Festival.

Additionally, 721 participants who set a world record for the longest line of people walking on Kangdongdang (bamboo stilts) were felicitated for their rare achievement.

The event was attended by chairman Raju Tisso, deputy chairman Ajit Kumar Dey, Karbi traditional king Longsing Ronghang, executive members (EMs), members of autonomous Council (MACs), MLAs, and principal secretary Mukul Kumar Saikia.
