Addressing the media at Dongmukak, KRAA- Mahamaya branch president, Birensing Engti said, “The authority of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council is going to implement VDC within its jurisdiction. VDC should not be set-up in the Sixth Scheduled districts and in its place the traditional village development council (TVDC) should set-up for the protection of the indigenous tribes’ cultural, social and religious heritage according to the Sixth Schedule of the Indian constitution”.

He urged the KAAC authority to set-up TVDC in place of VDC. Regarding the formation of TVDC, the organization has approached the chief executive member (CEM) of KAAC, Tuliram Ronghang.

Meanwhile, Engti also mentioned that the drafting committee for the formation of TVDC has already formed and it is in the process of completion. General secretary of KRAA, Robinson Rongpi and other members were also present on the occasion.
