DIBRUGARH, Sept 1: A mature leopard that had been causing concern in Chabua and its neighbouring areas was successfully trapped in an iron cage placed by the Forest department at Paniera village in Chabua.
Local sources revealed that the leopard had been roaming in Chabua, creating fear among villagers for an extended period.
Forest department officials, in collaboration with local villagers, managed to capture the elusive leopard at Paniera village in Chabua, utilising a strategically placed cage.
One resident commented, “The leopard had been terrorising our community for several days, preying on our domestic animals. We promptly informed the forest department, and they promptly deployed a cage in the vicinity where the animal was last seen. Ultimately, the elusive big cat was safely captured.”
The captured leopard was subsequently released back into its natural habitat.
Just a week earlier, on August 27, another leopard was captured by forest department officials in the same area. With the successful capture of two leopards within a week, the villagers breathed a collective sigh of relief.
