NAGAON, March 20: The Manpower Development and Management Institute (MDMI) recently conducted a special training programme for the development of various Cooperative Societies in Nagaon. The training programme, titled ‘Self-Sustenance through Improved Governance and Management of Resources’, is supported under the Cooperative Development Fund of NABARD. It aimed to facilitate detailed discussions on the role of PACS as multi-service societies, diversification of business, self-analysis based on SWOT parameters, and non-fund business opportunities like storage, processing, and marketing.
During the event, RCS Biswajit Chakravarty emphasised the importance of GPSS and their development in supporting society members. He suggested diversifying business and venturing into innovative activities as the need of the hour.
DDM-NABARD, Rajendar Perna, shared NABARD’s role in supporting the overall development of the cooperative sector, including training cooperative bank personnel and introducing various schemes like PACS as MSC and rural haats.
Deputy director of MDMI K K Kalita expressed gratitude to NABARD for supporting such training programmes. He informed participants about the availability of various options for PACS to plan their business growth following the adoption of Model Bye-Laws by the Cooperative Banks. He also acknowledged the role played by the RCS Team in organising the programme.
During the programme, participants received guidance from DRCS (I/c) G D Boruah, ARCS, Iva Borah, Goutam Choudhury, and Montu Boruah of Bholaguri GPSS.
The training is expected to instill confidence among participants for undertaking business diversification and effective resource utilisation, as per a press note.
