Minor found dead in Dibrugarh, gangrape and murder suspected

DIBRUGARH, Sept 4: The body of a 17-year-old girl was discovered at the residence of Moni Rajwar in Dhekeri Gaon, Banipur area, Dibrugarh, eastern Assam, on Sunday night. The minor girl was found hanging in her room from the ceiling fan, but when the police arrived at the scene, her body was lying on the bed.

There are suspicions that the minor girl was subjected to sexual assault and murder. In connection with the case, the police arrested four individuals: Biswajit Bakti, Kishore Bauri, Rohit Rabi Das alias Naga, and Lohit Deka.

Dibrugarh additional SP (HQ) Papori Chetia stated, “We discovered the body of the minor at the residence of Moni Rajwar, where the girl had been living for three months. The girl is originally from Makum, Tinsukia. We have sent the body for a post-mortem, and until that is completed, we cannot confirm anything.”

“We have initiated our investigation and apprehended four individuals in connection with the case. Among the four, one is a minor. We have sent all four for a medical examination,” Chetia mentioned.

She further added, “When our police team arrived at the scene, they found the body lying on the bed. She was hanging from the ceiling fan. We have gathered all the evidence from the scene and launched an investigation. At this stage, we cannot make any definitive statements as the investigation is in its preliminary phase.”

A case numbered 472/2023 under Sections 302/376 D IPC was filed at Dibrugarh police station.
