NAGAON, July 25: NABARD, the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, conducted an Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) programme at the RUDSETI-Nagaon campus. The theme of the event was ‘Achievements @ 75: Transforming Lives and NABARD’s Contribution in Assam’. The programme aimed to benefit around 75 participants from various Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and Farmers’ Producer Organisations (FPOs) operating in Nagaon district.
The participants received guidance from key officials, including DDM-NABARD, Rajendar Perna; DAO-Nagaon, Ranjan Deka; LDM, Khurshid Alam Ansari; DRCS, Biswajit Chakravarty; and RUDSETI-director, Sanjib Borkataki. DDM-NABARD, Rajendar Perna, delivered a detailed presentation on NABARD’s Genesis, Vision, and Mission. He discussed the organisation’s credit, financial, supervisory, and developmental functions, along with its role in implementing and monitoring centrally sponsored schemes. These schemes included the formation and promotion of 10,000 FPOs, agricultural infrastructure funds, computerisation of PACS, and more.
The participants also learned about NABARD’s successful interventions across India, such as SHG-bank linkage programs, watershed development initiatives, support for Joint Liability Groups (JLGs) of small and tenant farmers, and various skill development programs for rural youth and jail inmates. NABARD’s active projects in Nagaon district, including watershed projects, ITDP, RIDF projects, Biofloc fish farming, and support for creation of infrastructure, were also highlighted.
Ranjan Deka, DAO-Nagaon, praised NABARD’s efforts in enhancing the income levels of farmers through successful implementation of various developmental programs in the district. LDM, Khurshid Alam Ansari, encouraged rural artisans to pursue sustainable activities for profitable livelihoods and urged participants to enroll in social security schemes.
DRCS, Biswajit Chakravarty, commended NABARD for organising such beneficial programs for rural entrepreneurs and emphasised the importance of cooperative societies in supporting members’ activities in Nagaon. Sanjib Borkataki, RUDSETI-director, suggested conducting skill development programs for SHGs and rural entrepreneurs, encouraging participants to make the best use of the knowledge gained from the AKAM programme.
The AKAM programme served as a platform for fostering awareness and cooperation among various stakeholders to promote rural development and upliftment.
