NDRF conducts familiarisation exercise in Morigaon

JAGIROAD, May 11: The 1st battalion of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDRF) in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Authority, Morigaon conducted a familiarisation exercise across all revenue circles of Morigaon district.

The exercise, which began on May 6 concluded on Saturday. The exercise comprised demonstrations and mock exercises on various scenarios, including floods and fires. The exercise conducted in the Jagiroad Higher Secondary School in Mayong revenue circle, the Alakapur Higher Secondary School in Mikirbheta revenue circle, the Tinsukia Secondary School in Bhuragaon revenue circle, the Borthal Doloigaon H.S. School in Laharighat revenue circle and the Keyajan Secondary School in Morigaon revenue circle. Priyanka Gogoi, circle officer of Mayong revenue circle, Ranju Sarma, district project officer, District Disaster Management Authority’s field officers, principals, teachers, students and staff f different schools were present in the programme.

Moreover, the NDRF team ventured into flood prone villages of Morigaon district, alongside circle officers, DPO, DDMA, Morigaon, field officers (DM), LMs, and gaon pradhans during the same period. Their interactions with villagers shed light on past flood experiences. Additionally, a meeting between the NDRF team and Devasish Sharma, district commissioner cum chairman of DDMA, Morigaon, delved into the initiatives undertaken by the DDMA for flood preparedness. Sarma appealed to the NDRF team to expedite their invaluable services for the forthcoming flood season.
