The linkmen have been arrested for allegedly demanding ransom money from businessman Rupam Gogoi of Margherita.

The apprehended NSCN linkmen have been identified as Ankur Gogoi who held from Ketetong, Avinash Ghosh of Jagun and Lupan Singpho a lady of Arunachal Pradesh.

Rupam Gogoi proprietor of the New Life Foundation Rehabilitation Centre and an upcoming businessman of Margherita on Saturday talked to the press giving details about his experience with extortion attempts by the militant group NSCN.

Gogoi recounted how he had been approached by NSCN linkman Ankur Gogoi in the year 2023 and threatened with a hefty ransom of Rs 30 lakh where he further revealed that the extortionists resorted to blackmail tactics, attempting to damage his reputation if he did not comply with their demands.

However, Gogoi displayed remarkable courage by refusing to cave in to their pressure and he reported the incident to the Margherita Police Station on September 22, 2023, and filed a formal FIR (First Information Report) and the police have since apprehended Ankur Gogoi, a significant development in the case.

Rupam Gogoi firm stance against extortion is a commendable example for other businessmen targeted by such nefarious elements at 83 number Margherita LAC in Tinsukia district.
