Over 1,300 new ration cards distributed across Kokrajhar LACs

KOKRAJHAR, Dec 23: The ceremonial distribution of new ration cards under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) took place on Sunday at the Magurmari Durga Mandir Field in Kokrajhar where over 1,300 new ration cards were distributed to the beneficiaries.

Residents of No 3 Kokrajhar (ST) LAC and No 4 Baokhungri constituencies in Kokrajhar district were benefitted from the distribution.

Similar events were simultaneously held in 2 No Dotma LAC, Parbatjhora sub-division, and Gossaigaon LACs.

“A total of 1,316 ration cards were distributed across the constituencies, with Gossaigaon LAC receiving 526 cards, Dotma LAC (ST) 200, Kokrajhar (ST) 107, Baokhungri LAC 207, and Parbatjhora LAC 276,” an official statement said.

The remaining cards will be distributed in the coming days by area inspectors of the Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department, it added.

MLA Lawrence Islary graced the event at Magurmari as the chief guest, personally distributing ration cards to the beneficiaries.

In his address, MLA Lawrence Islary praised the leadership of chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, emphasising the government’s commitment to uplifting the underprivileged. He also conveyed the sentiments of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) chief executive member Pramod Boro, who underscored the importance of ensuring that no deserving individual is left out of the scheme’s benefits.

MLA Lawrence Islary urged the district administration, government officials, and stakeholders to remain dedicated to societal upliftment by supporting and implementing such impactful initiatives.

The program was attended by several dignitaries, including EMs Saikhong Basumatary and Arup Kumar Dey, MCLA Rajiv Kumar Brahma, and Kokrajhar DC Masanda Magdalin Pertin, among others.

The newly enlisted ration card beneficiaries expressed their happiness and gratitude to BTR chief executive member Pramod Boro and chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for providing ration cards to support the needy across the state.
