GUWAHATI, July 27: Assam social justice & empowerment minister, Pijush Hazarika, conducted surprise visits on Thursday to the “Hope Foundation” in Hengerabari, Guwahati, and the “Rani Rehabilitation Centre” in Lalmati. The primary objective of the visits was to ensure that the addicts residing in these centers receive proper medical care, lodging facilities, sanitation, and other essential amenities in accordance with government policy guidelines.
During the inspection of the “Hope Foundation” in Hengerabari, minister Pijush Hazarika expressed deep concern as the center lacked even the most basic facilities required for compliance with government guidelines. Despite multiple directives, the center failed to meet the necessary standards. As a result, minister Hazarika has ordered the closure of this center and instructed the relocation of its residents to other facilities that meet the mandated standards.
At the “Rani Rehabilitation Centre” in Lalmati, the minister observed that the center had the necessary facilities, but it has been operating without qualified doctors for several months. Consequently, minister Hazarika issued a directive to the center’s proprietor, emphasizing the immediate appointment of qualified medical professionals within the next week. He sternly warned of the center’s closure if the directive is not followed.
Minister Pijush Hazarika stressed that the well-being and proper treatment of those struggling with addiction are of paramount importance to the government. Rehabilitation centers play a vital role in supporting individuals in need, and it is imperative that they adhere to the guidelines set by the government.
In light of this, the minister reiterated strict instructions to all rehabilitation center proprietors and custodians across Assam to fully comply with government guidelines and prioritize cleanliness and proper care. He emphasized that surprise inspections will continue across the state to ensure that all rehabilitation centers maintain the necessary standards for the well-being of their residents.
