GUWAHATI, Aug 4: Assam’s Social Justice & Empowerment minister, Pijush Hazarika, graced the inauguration of a special vaccination camp organised by the Sonitpur district administration, Rotary Club Tezpur, and Animal Welfare Club of Tezpur University on Thursday. The primary objective of the camp is to protect and immunise stray animals from various diseases, ensuring their well-being.
During the event, minister Pijush Hazarika unveiled a fleet of mobile animal ambulances, a remarkable addition to Sonitpur district, provided under chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s animal welfare scheme. The introduction of these ambulances will play a pivotal role in promptly providing medical assistance to injured or sick animals in the region, bolstering their chances of survival.
Additionally, the minister inaugurated state-of-the-art animal welfare shelters, thoughtfully designed to offer a safe haven and medical care to vulnerable animals in need of support.
The Animal Welfare Club of Tezpur University, which has been actively involved in protecting and treating stray dogs and other animals over the years, received special recognition during the ceremony. Minister Pijush Hazarika expressed deep appreciation and gratitude for their unwavering dedication to the welfare of animals in the area.
The collaborative efforts between the Sonitpur district administration, Rotary Club Tezpur, Tezpur University’s Animal Welfare Club, and the state government have yielded significant strides towards animal welfare in the region. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to safeguarding the well-being of stray animals and ensuring a compassionate and responsible approach to their care.
