MORIGAON, March 28: With the Lok Sabha elections looming, various political parties have intensified their door-to-door election campaigns with their candidates contesting in the district. The Congress, as the leading Opposition party, has launched door-to-door campaigns in a bid to secure the Nagaon LS seat for the second consecutive term, as revealed by MP Pradyut Bordoloi during a press meet held at Morigaon Congress Bhawan on Thursday. The India Alliance, led by Congress party’s national spokesperson Mahima Singh, has joined hands with CPI, AJP, APP, and Raijor Dal to challenge the BJP in the LS elections.

Addressing the media, Mahima Singh criticised the BJP for ignoring alleged wrongdoings within the party. She alleged that Delhi’s chief secretary, Rajendra Kumar, was being made a scapegoat by the CBI to provide evidence against Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, leading the IAS officer to consider voluntary retirement due to pressure. MP Pradyut Bordoloi stated, “We, the Congress party, have always been against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). We do not support the CAA and will never implement it on Assam’s land.”

During the press meet, veteran CPI leader Munin Mahanta, AJP leader Bani Das, district president Swaban Dekaraja, and senior Congress leader Sachimuhan Biswas strongly criticised the BJP. The event was attended by PPCC senior spokesperson Imdad Hussain, Morigaon Party’s Election Campaign Committee president Ramesh Bardoloi, national leader and former MLA of Communist Party of India (CPI) Munin Mahanta, Assam Jatiya Parishad secretary Bani Das, District Committee president Jayanta Kumar Deka, senior leader Chimal Deuri, Raijor Dal district president Ratul Hazarika, secretary Jitumani Deka, senior leader Dilip Kumar Das, Congress leader Maidul Islam Khan, and many other workers.
