Sishupran Nabin Chandra Sarma’s death anniversary observed

GUWAHATI, Aug 8: Nabin Sarma Smriti Chora, a socio-cultural organisation in Guwahati, observed the death anniversary of Sishupran Nabin Chandra Sarma in association with Panbazar Adarsha Lower Primary School, Guwahati, on Wednesday.

Bhaskar Kaushik, general secretary of Smriti Chora, conducted the function. Bandana Baruah, headmistress of Panbazar Adarsha Lower Primary School, paid homage to the legendary figure by lighting the traditional lamp. Dr Chayanika Sharma, president of Smriti Chora, remembered Sishupran’s contributions to society, particularly for children. An extempore speech competition was held among the students, with Rumi Devi and Kalpita Lahkar serving as judges. Dr Pradip Sharma presented a PowerPoint presentation on “How the Little Students Can Keep Their City Guwahati Clean and Pollution-Free”. Namita Bhattacharyya demonstrated some of the songs used in the ‘Music Drill’ (Sangeet Byaam) by Late Nabin Chandra Sarma, accompanied by Dr Chayanika Sharma and Nilakshi Chakraborty. 

Bandana Barua and Minakshi Das, former headmistress, were felicitated by Drubajyoti Sarma, assistant general secretary, with gamosas and saplings. Priyabrata Lahkar, Bandana Baruah, and Arun Saikia delivered speeches, while Debahuti Saikia, along with teachers and students, performed excellent songs and dances during the function. Kalpita Lahkar announced the competition results, with Anusmita Rajbanshi adjudged first, Anushree Das second, Parthapratim Sarma third, and Amar Kakati receiving an inspiration prize. Nagen Chandra Sarma, treasurer of Smriti Chora, offered the vote of thanks. The function concluded with the singing of the Jatiya Sangeet.
