Sonitpur prepares for Amrit Brikhya Andolan 2024

District authorities set ambitious target of planting 15 lakh saplings

TEZPUR, July 15: A preparatory meeting to discuss and plan for the upcoming Amrit Brikhya Andolan 2024 in respect of Sonitpur district was held on Monday under the chairmanship of district commissioner Deba Kumar Mishra at the Conference Hall of the District Commissioner’s Office, Sonitpur, Tezpur.

Opening the meeting, the district commissioner welcomed all stakeholders to the meeting and informed the gathering that the time frame for this year’s Amrit Brikhya Andolan is from August 1 to August 15, 2024. He added that the district target for this year’s Amrit Brikhya Andolan is the planting of 15 lakh saplings, which is three times last year’s target. Addressing the gathering, the divisional forest officer of Western Assam Wildlife Division, Piraisoodan B, mentioned the stellar performance of Sonitpur in last year’s event and urged everyone to maintain the momentum. He added that the primary objective of the meeting was to strategise the distribution and collection of the saplings for the upcoming event. The district commissioner, in his closing remarks, directed all concerned departments to submit a plan for distribution and collection points of saplings within 5 days.

Chief executive officer of Zilla Parishad, Karabi Saikia Karan, additional district commissioner, Twahir Alam, divisional forest officer (Territorial), Nripen Kalita, and other officials of all concerned departments were present at the meeting.
