JORHAT, May 19: Three persons were sent to judicial custody on Sunday for allegedly trying to steal cattle at Malowpathar Kathonibari on Saturday. The trio was apprehended by villagers and handed over to the police.
According to sources, the accused persons are Kulai Hazarika (33) of nearby Borbheti, Babujan Das (42) of nearby Baliati, and Pranab Das (35) of Kuruhabari, Bokakhat Civil Sub-division of Golaghat district. They were arrested under Sections 379 and 34 of the IPC in Pulibor Police Station case number 71/2024. The sources said the three, along with another individual, were reportedly spotted by local people while they were chasing cattle, which were grazing in a ground near a paddy field, after which the villagers nabbed three of them, with one managing to flee from the site. A mini-truck and a motorcycle reportedly used by the accused persons to commit the act of cattle theft were also found at the spot. It may be mentioned here that people of several villages near the incident site have been alleging that a number of domestic cows and buffaloes were found missing in recent times.
