According to sources, acting on a tip-off, a joint team of police and forest officials conducted a raid at the residence of Chingarai Hasda (60) in 1 No Donga village, where a handmade rifle was recovered. During interrogation, Chingarai disclosed that an elephant tusk was hidden in the house of Sanu Hembrom (60), a resident of the same village.

The team subsequently raided Sanu Hembrom’s house, successfully recovering the elephant tusk. Further interrogation of Chingarai and Sanu led to another operation at the residence of Baburam Soren (46) in Manjur village, Nagrijuli, where the team seized an additional handmade rifle.

The three accused were taken into custody, and the seized items, including two handmade rifles and the elephant tusk, were brought to Tamulpur Police Station. “This was a significant step in apprehending poachers and recovering the elephant tusk and rifles used in illegal activities,” said a senior forest official.
