DIPHU, Nov 10: In continuation of the ongoing inspection drive, the taxation department of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) on Thursday conducted an inspection drive at Sukhajan Daily Market to check the trading license and professional tax from traders. Those not having trading licenses were urged to get the same at the earliest from the office of the taxation department.

The team was led by deputy secretary, KAAC, Taxation, Sonasing Terang; superintendent of taxes, Mongalsing Taro and assistant commissioner of taxes, Serdihun Beypi.

The inspector of taxes, assistant inspectors and enforcement constables visited all shops and business establishments and checked the trading licenses of shopkeepers and businessmen. Those having a trading license but not renewed were asked to renew it at the earliest. Those who did not have a trading license were given a deadline of one week to get it.

The tax officials also checked stock rooms for any suspicious items. They have given strict warnings to shopkeepers and business establishments on the preparation of trading licenses and their renewal within a week time to avoid cancellation.

During the inspection, it was seen that many shops and business establishments like welding and repair of pieces of machinery, tyre shops, motor garage, tea stalls, steel almirah-making shops and sand stockists etc., were running their business without a trading license.

It was also seen that many of the shopkeepers are still unaware of the need of having a trading license. Gobin Tatanti, who runs a welding shop at Sukhanjan is one such business person who runs his business without a trading license. He said, “Earlier the welding shop was owned by another person, but now that person has given it to me to run it. I don’t have a trading license and I am happy that the officials of Taxation have come and explained the need to have a trading license. Within a week I will prepare a trading license.”

Deputy secretary, KAAC, Taxation, Sonasing Terang said, “Today we conducted an inspection drive to check trading licenses of traders. We have almost completed the inspection drive in the Sukhanjan area and next will be in Bokajan town, Khatkhati and Lahorijan.”
