GUWAHATI, Nov 15: Over 390 enthusiastic students from renowned institutions across Cachar gathered at the Gurucharan College Auditorium on Thursday for a groundbreaking vocational guidance and career counseling program. The event, organised by the Directorate of Employment and Craftsmen Training, Assam, along with the Skill, Employment & Entrepreneurship Department, was designed to provide students with valuable insights into career opportunities and skill development, equipping them for a bright and resilient future.
The program began with a formal inauguration and ceremonial lighting of the lamp, led by district commissioner Mridul Yadav, the chief guest, and Norsing Bey, district development commissioner, Cachar, as the guest of honour. Both dignitaries emphasised the importance of early career planning, practical skill-building, and the role of self-reliance in today’s dynamic job market.
In his address, district commissioner Yadav commended the young attendees for their enthusiasm and commitment to personal and professional growth. “This initiative reflects the government’s dedication to empowering young people—not just to secure jobs, but to build careers that will fuel individual and regional growth,” he remarked, encouraging students to align their interests with the needs of the market and take advantage of programs like this.
District development commissioner Bey echoed this sentiment, highlighting the transformative power of vocational skills and adaptability. “Today’s employment landscape is evolving rapidly. Programs like these equip you to adapt, innovate, and excel. Assam’s future lies in the hands of driven and skilled youth like yourselves,” Bey said, urging students to consider both vocational training and entrepreneurship as rewarding career paths.
With active participation from GC College, Silchar Women’s College, Silchar Polytechnic, and other institutions, the event featured interactive sessions with industry experts, guidance counselors, and accomplished alumni. These professionals shared insights from their own career journeys, giving students a clearer understanding of various career trajectories and how to navigate their options confidently.
The program concluded with a renewed sense of purpose among the young attendees, marking an essential step toward building a skilled workforce in Cachar. It was a reminder of the vast potential within Assam’s youth to contribute meaningfully to the region’s socio-economic progress.
