GUWAHATI, May 31: AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal on Friday asserted that he will win comfortably from the Dhubri Lok Sabha seat, turning down the claims by Congress leaders of winning this parliamentary constituency.
Ajmal has been representing the Dhubri constituency in the lower house of the parliament since 2009. He has won this seat thrice and the AIUDF leader is looking for a straight fourth term as an MP from Dhubri.
However, Congress has fielded former state minister and Samaguri MLA Rakibul Hussain in Dhubri seat in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls and according to poll watchers, Ajmal may find it difficult this time to win this time.
But Ajmal told reporters here, “Let the Congress workers continue with their claim of winning Dhubri seat. I will win with a huge margin. People will see it on June 4.”
According to him, Congress could not give a fight to the BJP in Karimganj—another minority-dominated Lok Sabha seat in the state.
“I have received reports that BJP will win in Karimganj. In Nagaon Lok Sabha seat, there will be a tough contest between the Congress and AIUDF, but we are confident that our candidate will win there,” Ajmal said.
AIUDF fielded Aminul Islam, the legislator from Dhing assembly segment in Nagaon Lok Sabha seat against the incumbent Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi.
