Guwahati, Nov 18: Assam police have resolved two ‘Love Jihad’ incidents in Guwahati city, rescuing two minor girls from two youths of the minority community who had misrepresented themselves as Hindus.
The youths, Shahidul Islam from Dhubri and Murshid Ali from Dalgaon in Darrang District, were arrested near Guwahati College in the Jyotinagar area of Bamunimaidam.
Reports indicate that the girls had fallen in love with the youths and, against their families’ wishes, eloped with them six months ago. Initially, Shahidul and Murshid had introduced themselves as Raja and Rahul, respectively.
Following the girls’ disappearances, their families filed missing person reports at the Chandmari police station. One of the rescued girls is reportedly four months pregnant. Both accused have been arrested under the POCSO act and are now in jail.
