Women shot dead in Karbi Anglong

DIPHU, June 11: Unidentified miscreants shot dead a young woman in the wee hours on Tuesday in Diphu in Karbi Anglong.

The victim identified as Hukuri Tissopi (23), was shot in the head. She had been staying at Arlonglangso, 3 Km Lumding Road with her siblings. The deceased was is the daughter of Sing Tisso and Lt. Kare Rongpharpi of Virvar Bher Rongpi Village in Dengaon in Karbi Anglong.

The father, Sing Tisso stated before the media that he had constructed the homestead for his daughters. His three daughters stayed there as they were pursuing their education here. He said that at around 1 am a person had entered the house from behind by digging a hole into the room where his daughter Hukuri was sleeping, while another stayed outside.

Tisso said that his daughters had told him that on the previous day two men had conducted an inspection of the place and came into the compound asking for water and direction. When the incident happened the father was not present as he was in his village, Virvar.

The additional SP (crime), Jayanta Baruah told the media that they received information about the incident at around 1:45 am and rushed to the place along with SP, Sanjib Kumar Saikia. They found the victim with bullet injury. Further investigation is on.

Expressing his shock and grief about the incident, the chief executive member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang said, “Two unknown persons have gone to the house of Hukuri Tissopi in the wee hours today and shot her to death. I immediately informed the Diphu Police Station and also directed the SP to carry out an inquiry into the incident so that the culprits can be nabbed and stringent punishment be awarded to them.”
