NAMSAI, May 17: The Arunachal Institute of Tribal Studies (AITS), Rajiv Gandhi University, in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), successfully hosted a Leader Engagement Workshop on Friday at the Don Bosco Youth Center, Vivek Vihar, Itanagar.
The workshop was held under the ICMR-funded multi-state implementation research project titled “Suicide Risk Reduction and Improving Mental Well-Being among School and College Students.”
This initiative seeks to address the growing concern of youth mental health and suicide prevention through awareness, education, and community leadership. The one-day event witnessed active participation from educators, administrators, student leaders, healthcare professionals, and mental health advocates from across the region.
Speakers emphasized the importance of identifying early signs of mental health distress among students and advocated for the integration of mental well-being practices into academic institutions. The workshop aimed to empower leaders at the grassroots level with practical tools, research-backed strategies, and culturally sensitive approaches to reduce suicide risk and promote mental resilience among youth.
AITS Director and principal investigators of the project expressed gratitude to ICMR for supporting this vital cause and reiterated the university’s commitment to fostering a safe and supportive academic environment.
Participants engaged in interactive sessions, shared field experiences, and contributed to developing a localized framework for mental health promotion tailored to the needs of Arunachal Pradesh’s diverse communities.
The event concluded with a pledge by all stakeholders to continue working collaboratively in addressing mental health challenges among young people and to ensure that no student feels isolated or unheard.
