Assam: Cop caught red-handed on bribery charges in Cachar

Cachar, March 10: The Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam, apprehended a police official for bribery in Cachar on Sunday.

The arrested officer, identified as ASI Noma Uddin Ahmed, allegedly demanded Rs. 6000 as a bribe from a complainant to return a stolen motorcycle. Upon refusal to pay, the complainant reported Ahmed to the Directorate.

A trap was subsequently set up, leading to Ahmed’s arrest immediately after he accepted a reduced bribe of Rs. 4000. The bribe money was seized from his possession in the presence of independent witnesses.

A case has been registered under Section 7(a) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Ahmed has been arrested with legal proceedings underway.
