Assam DGP directs Golaghat SP to conduct enquiry into the alleged suicide of youth

Golaghat, Oct 25: Assam’s Director General of Police (DGP), GP Singh, expressed profound distress over the suicide of a young citizen, Ajay Dutta, from Dergaon in Golaghat District.

The DGP has instructed the Superintendent of Police in Golaghat to investigate the incident, establish accountability, and take necessary legal action. In a statement on an unspecified platform, Singh conveyed that the Assam Police are deeply saddened by Dutta’s suicide, adding that Assam’s Chief Minister has also expressed serious concern over the incident.

Offering his deepest condolences to the bereaved family, Singh reassured the people of Assam of their continued efforts to make Assam Police a more sensitive and humane police force.

Taking to X platform, DGP Singh said, “Assam Police is deeply distraught at the news of suicide of a young fellow citizen Ajay Dutta of Dergaon, District Golaghat. The Chief Minister of Assam has conveyed to me his grave concern about the incident.”

A tragic incident took place in Dolormukh village, Dergaon, where a young man named Ajay Dutta allegedly committed suicide on the night of Vijaya Dashami celebrations.

The incident was reported by the family of the deceased who lodged a police complaint. According to the complaint, Ajay Dutta had gone out to witness the Vijaya Dashami festivities when a verbal altercation occurred between a man named Rahul Dutta and a truck driver. Ajay Dutta, while attempting to intervene, was attacked by the driver and a traffic policeman.

Singh, while expressing his deep condolences to the bereaved family, reassured the people of Assam of continuous efforts to make Assam Police a more sensitive and humane unit.
