Guwahati, April 28: In a major operation, the Kamrup Metropolitan Excise Department seized around 135 cartons of foreign liquor meant for illegal sale in Meghalaya.
The liquor was confiscated after a Bolero Pick Up was stopped in the Jorabat area on Saturday and thorough searches were carried out. The liquor was reportedly transported without any proper documents.
Following this, the vehicle’s driver was held and a case was registered under Section 53(1)(a) of the Assam Excise Act. In another coordinated action, the Excise Department’s enforcement team seized 150 litres of illicit liquor and a Maruti Swift vehicle, as per reports.
Two individuals, including the vehicle’s driver, were reportedly arrested and charged under Section 53(1)(a) of the Excise Act.
